Potential Biomarkers Linked to Mitochondrial Cleanup in Atherosclerosis

Updated

Abstract

A total of 286 candidate genes were identified as being associated with atherosclerosis and mitophagy.

  • Mitophagy may play a role in the inflammatory processes associated with atherosclerosis.
  • Four key candidate biomarkers—CCR5, CD163, CSF1R, and FCGR3A—were prioritized based on their expression patterns.
  • Gene set enrichment analysis revealed associations with myogenesis, allograft rejection, and inflammatory responses in relation to candidate gene expression.
  • Exploratory analysis suggested a potential drug-target interaction between sunitinib and CSF1R.
  • Single-cell analysis identified seven major cell populations in atherosclerosis patients, with specific macrophage-enriched expression of CD163, CSF1R, and FCGR3A.
