Accurate layering of cells in 3D gel structures using twisted coaxial bioprinting

Updated

Abstract

A coaxial-chaotic 3D bioprinting platform successfully produced stable layered structures in tissue constructs.

  • The platform combines coaxial extrusion with static mixers to control cell arrangement.
  • A hybrid bioink of 2% sodium alginate and 5% gelatin methacrylate was used to create layered patterns.
  • The static mixers generated predictable chaotic stratification by modifying bioink flow.
  • L929 mouse fibroblasts within the constructs maintained stable layered arrangements and high cell viability.
  • Cell proliferation was observed to be sustained over 7 days of culture.
