Rapamycin helps injured nerves recover by affecting the communication between the brain, body, and muscles

Updated

Abstract

Rapamycin treatment significantly improved peripheral nerve repair after sciatic nerve crush injury.

  • Axonal extension and maturation were accelerated with Rapamycin treatment.
  • Myelin structure showed enhancement and remyelination was improved.
  • Preservation of spinal cord neuronal health was observed, including reduced neuronal death and maintained synaptic markers.
  • Muscle mass and myofiber area in denervated gastrocnemius muscle were preserved, along with increased neuromuscular junction reinnervation.
  • Sensory reinnervation and motor recovery were improved, as indicated by enhanced compound muscle action potential amplitude and gait.
