Unique microbes and chemicals found in people living in confined spaces

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Confined-environment activity restriction was linked to emotional symptoms, altered gut microbes, and disrupted neurotransmitter-related metabolism.

Evidence

Human observational profiling of SRBARC combined emotional measures, HPA and inflammatory markers, full-length 16S rDNA sequencing, and fecal, serum, and urine metabolomics with dual-cohort microbial validation.

Caveat

The associations cannot show that the identified microbes or metabolites caused the depressive/anxiety-like behaviors or would respond to intervention.
