Pulmonary circulation

Long-lasting breathlessness and remaining lung blood vessel problems after COVID-19 blood clots in the lungs

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Persistent dyspnea after COVID-19-related pulmonary embolism was common and appeared more tied to lung or microvascular sequelae than pulmonary hypertension.

Evidence

This retrospective FENIX analysis followed COVID-19 survivors with venous thromboembolism, including 42 with acute pulmonary embolism and 34 assessed up to 6 months with imaging and functional testing.

Caveat

The pulmonary embolism follow-up group was small, dyspnea had only borderline association with CT parenchymal sequelae, and long-COVID mechanisms could not be excluded.
