Daily body temperature rhythms influence the daily activity of the KCNH2 (hERG) gene controller

Updated

Abstract

Physiological temperature cycles may drive the circadian promoter activity of the cloned human KCNH2 promoter.

  • KCNH2 encodes Kv11.1 channel proteins essential for cardiac repolarization.
  • Two functional isoforms of KCNH2, Kv11.1a and Kv11.1b, are produced through alternative transcription start sites.
  • Kv11.1a is identified as the main factor for cardiac I Kr and ventricular repolarization.
  • The circadian clock influences the expression of Kcnh2 in the mouse heart.
  • Daily body temperature rhythms may synchronize the cardiac circadian clocks.
