How Body Clock Types Affect Muscle and Nerve Performance in Male Volleyball Players

Updated

Abstract

Forty-six male volleyball players showed an evening improvement in neuromuscular performance ranging from 1.8% to 3.0%.

  • Chronotype classification included morning-type (12), intermediate-type (15), and evening-type (19) players.
  • No significant interaction between circadian phenotype and time-of-day was observed.
  • Significant time-of-day effects were noted in multiple performance tests, including vertical jumps and handgrip strength.
  • Evening performance improvements were particularly marked in vertical jump ability and spike velocity.
  • The findings suggest that while chronotype may not significantly influence performance, time of day does play a crucial role.
