Daily activity patterns are linked to different types of impulsive behavior

Updated

Abstract

Eveningness was strongly associated with multiple facets of impulsivity in a sample of 78 White male participants.

  • Eveningness correlated with trait-level impulsivity, specifically a lack of perseverance.
  • State-level impulsivity showed associations with negative urgency, positive urgency, lack of perseverance, and lack of premeditation.
  • Average sleep timing and duration were generally unrelated to impulsivity measures.
  • In exploratory analyses, later midsleep timing was linked to greater mean state-level impulsivity across various facets.
  • Associations between sleep timing and impulsivity may differ by race and sex.
