Individuals with disrupted circadian rhythms are at a significantly higher risk of developing pancreatitis.

  • Circadian rhythm disruption may lead to increased incidence of acinar vacuolization in a mouse model.
  • Exposure to continuous light resulted in elevated levels of intrapancreatic trypsin and serum digestive enzymes.
  • A notable increase in M1-type macrophage infiltration was observed in the group with circadian rhythm disruption.
  • RNA sequencing revealed significant changes in gene expression related to amino acid metabolism in pancreatic tissue under continuous light conditions.
  • Melatonin treatment may inhibit the expression of an enzyme involved in amino acid metabolism, reduce inflammatory cytokines, and promote a shift towards M2-type macrophages.
