How Epstein-Barr Virus May Disrupt Daily Rhythms and Behavior in Fruit Flies

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Epstein-Barr virus exposure can disturb circadian and sleep-related behavior in fruit flies.

Evidence

A Drosophila melanogaster experiment comparing EBV viral-particle and EBV DNA injections measured lifespan, activity, sleep, and , finding circadian disruptions with viral particles and sleep defects with EBV DNA.

Caveat

Because this is an injection-based fly model, it does not establish how EBV affects human neurophysiology or natural infection.
