Daily biological rhythms influence eye growth in different species

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Circadian misalignment was linked to myopia in humans and induced a reversible myopic shift in mice.

Evidence

This mixed human-animal study combined biobank analyses of more than 265,000 people with experimental non-24-hour light-dark schedules and retinal transcriptomics in mice.

Caveat

The human evidence is associational, while the causal experiment was in mice, so translation to human prevention or treatment remains uncertain.
