circHERC1 as a molecule that activates telomerase

Updated

Abstract

CircHERC1 expression declines with age, which is associated with reduced telomerase activity.

  • CircHERC1 regulates the transcription of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) by binding to its promoter.
  • The recruitment of RNA polymerase II and c-Fos is facilitated by circHERC1, activating TERT expression.
  • Restoring circHERC1 expression enhances telomerase activity and promotes telomere elongation.
  • CircHERC1 delivery through viral vectors or extracellular vesicles effectively restores telomerase activity and preserves telomere integrity.
  • This intervention may improve cognitive function, physical performance, and reduce inflammation.
