Nanoparticles that activate only inside target cells when triggered

Updated

Abstract

Quantitatively, 15-45% of the C102-Tet groups on nanoparticles participated in the reaction to activate fluorescence.

  • Fluorogenic nanoparticles were designed to activate fluorescence specifically at intracellular targets using a chemical reaction.
  • The nanoparticles were composed of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) and poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(lactic acid), with variations in PEG chain length and surface density.
  • Individual nanoparticles, approximately 80 nm in size, were resolved using advanced microscopy techniques.
  • The fluorogenic moiety on the nanoparticle surface remained reactive throughout the process.
  • Fluorescence imaging demonstrated alignment of nanoparticles along microtubules, indicating successful targeting and activation in specific cellular locations.
