Abstract

Forty percent of the 96 cancer drug indications studied received breakthrough designation.

  • Among the trials, 43% met the high clinical benefit threshold of the ASCO Value Framework.
  • Breakthrough drugs had higher odds of being rated as clinically meaningful by the ASCO Value Framework and NCCN Evidence Blocks.
  • The median monthly costs of breakthrough therapy drugs were significantly higher than those of non-breakthrough therapies.
  • Breakthrough drugs did not show higher scores for clinical benefit according to the ESMO-MCBS or ASCO-CRC scales.
