Clinical and cost-effectiveness of a standard diagnostic test for children and teens with emotional problems: the STADIA multi-center trial

Updated

Abstract

One thousand two hundred and twenty-five (1225) children and young people were randomly assigned to study groups.

  • At 12 months, 68 (11%) participants in the intervention group received an emotional disorder diagnosis compared to 72 (12%) in the control group.
  • Adherence to the intervention was 80% (494/615) for those assigned to the development and well-being assessment.
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services acceptance of the index referral was similar between the intervention and control groups, at 45% and 43%, respectively.
  • No evidence was found for differences in secondary outcomes between the intervention and control groups.
  • Barriers and facilitators to using the assessment tool were identified during the qualitative process evaluation, particularly in the assessment and diagnosis stages.
