Blood vessels, thrombosis & hemostasis

Lasting blood clotting problems and blood vessel damage after COVID-19

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Postacute COVID-19 syndrome after severe COVID-19 pneumonia was associated with persistent thromboinflammatory lab abnormalities through 7 to 12 months.

Evidence

A retrospective cohort of 3,783 adult inpatients in Jinan, China, including 363 COVID-19 patients with PACS, tracked coagulation and inflammatory markers through 1 year.

Caveat

The evidence is retrospective, inpatient, and marker-based, so persistent abnormal labs do not by themselves prove ongoing thrombosis or apply to all long COVID patients.
