Disruption of the COG7 subunit in Arabidopsis thaliana leads to reduced Golgi size and enhanced stress signaling.

  • COG7 is identified as essential for maintaining Golgi integrity and stress adaptation.
  • Functional impairment of COG7 accelerates dark-induced senescence.
  • Only certain COG subunits (COG3, COG5, COG6) can partially restore stress signaling and senescence functions.
  • Alterations in glycosylation, ubiquitination, and autophagy are observed in cog7, but are considered downstream effects rather than causes of stress responses.
  • Activation of stress signaling is genetically distinct from pathways related to senescence and proteostasis.
