Targeted delivery of oxaliplatin to colorectal cancer using folic acid-coated solid lipid nanoparticles: preparation, optimization, and lab testing

Updated

Abstract

Oxaliplatin loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (OPSLNs) achieved a drug entrapment efficiency of 49.2%.

  • Optimized formulations showed particle sizes of 146.2 nm for OPSLNs and 158.8 nm for OPSLNFs.
  • Drug release studies indicated a sustained release pattern of oxaliplatin for up to 6 days.
  • OPSLN formulations demonstrated a higher anticancer potency against the HT-29 cell line compared to unencapsulated oxaliplatin.
  • Folic acid conjugation to the nanoparticles resulted in improved sensitivity of HT-29 cells to the drug.
