CREG1 Slows Osteoarthritis by Preventing Cartilage Cell Death Through Mitochondrial Cleanup

Updated

Abstract

CREG1 expression was significantly reduced in osteoarthritis cartilage and is negatively correlated with chondrocyte pyroptosis.

  • Reduced CREG1 levels may be linked to increased chondrocyte pyroptosis in osteoarthritis.
  • Silencing CREG1 could worsen apoptosis and extracellular matrix degradation.
  • CREG1 deficiency may lead to enhanced activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome.
  • Impaired mitophagy and disrupted mitochondrial function are associated with lower CREG1 expression.
  • Overexpression of CREG1 appears to restore PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy and improve mitochondrial health.
