Increasing CsCCD4b enzyme in Arabidopsis helps tolerate drought, salt, and oxidative stress by adjusting reactive oxygen levels

Updated

Abstract

Overexpression of CsCCD4b in transgenic plants resulted in enhanced tolerance to salt, dehydration, and oxidative stresses.

  • Three isoforms of CsCCD4 showed high substrate specificity for β-carotene during molecular modeling and docking analysis.
  • CsCCD4a and CsCCD4b exhibited increased expression in response to dehydration, salt, and methylviologen stress.
  • Transgenic Arabidopsis plants overexpressing CsCCD4b developed longer roots and had a higher number of lateral roots.
  • These transgenic plants demonstrated a higher survival rate, increased relative root length, and greater biomass compared to wild type.
  • Transgenic plants also exhibited elevated activity and expression of enzymes that metabolize reactive oxygen species.
