Abstract
Higher doses of H. erinaceus mycelium and erinacine A significantly reduced ketamine intake and motivation in a rat self-administration model.
- H. erinaceus mycelium and erinacine A were tested in relation to ketamine's potential for abuse.
- Both compounds decreased the amount of ketamine that rats chose to self-administer.
- The reduction in ketamine consumption occurred under both fixed and progressive reinforcement schedules.
- Unlike ketamine, H. erinaceus mycelium did not affect the consumption of food rewards.
- Erinacine A was associated with a decrease in food reinforcement, indicating a different effect profile.
