Curculigoside reduces disc cell death by boosting BMAL1 and blocking the JAK/STAT3 pathway

Updated

Abstract

BMAL1 expression was significantly lower in degenerative intervertebral disc cells, indicating a potential therapeutic target for intervertebral disc degeneration.

  • A negative correlation exists between BMAL1 expression and the severity of intervertebral disc degeneration.
  • Knockdown of BMAL1 in degenerative cells resulted in a higher rate of apoptosis.
  • Overexpression of BMAL1 reduced apoptosis in degenerative nucleus pulposus cells.
  • Curculigoside may increase BMAL1 expression by inhibiting the phosphorylation of STAT3.
  • The upregulation of BMAL1 by curculigoside could alleviate apoptosis and enhance extracellular matrix components in nucleus pulposus cells.
