Dahuang-Gancao herbal mix improves male-pattern hair loss caused by testosterone in mice

Abstract

The 10% Dahuang-Gancao decoction (DGD) significantly promotes the expression of Wnt10b and β-catenin in hair follicle stem cells.

  • External application of DGD may activate the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, leading to increased proliferation of hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs).
  • Animal studies indicate that DGD treatment promotes hair follicles in AGA mice to enter the anagen phase.
  • DGD treatment is associated with a higher hair growth score and an increase in the number of hair follicles in treated mice.
  • The expression of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway proteins is upregulated in the skin tissues of AGA mice following DGD application.
  • DGD may offer a safer alternative to oral administration for promoting hair regeneration in androgenetic alopecia.
