Nutrient intake and nutrition levels in patients on regular kidney dialysis: a multi-center survey

Abstract

Among 382 Maintenance hemodialysis patients, 58.9% had protein intake below recommended levels.

  • Average protein intake was 0.99 ± 0.32 g/kg/d and average energy intake was 29.06 ± 7.79 kcal/kg/d.
  • Comorbidity with diabetes was associated with lower normalized daily energy and protein intake.
  • Dietary protein and energy intake were correlated with several health indicators, including serum creatinine and subjective global assessment scores.
  • Certain nutrients, such as phosphorus and fiber, were linked to key blood test results like serum phosphorus and handgrip strength.
  • Overall dietary nutrient intake among MHD patients is inadequate and may negatively affect their nutritional status and health outcomes.
