Using immersive virtual reality for digital rehabilitation of post-COVID fatigue in a double-blind trial

Abstract

Fatigue severity improved by -8.29 points in the immersive virtual reality exercise group.

  • Fatigue severity improved in both the immersive virtual reality exercise group and the conventional exercise group, with changes of -8.29 and -5.27 points, respectively.
  • The immersive virtual reality exercise group exceeded the established minimal important difference of 6.3 points.
  • Symptom worsening occurred less frequently in the immersive virtual reality group (9%) compared to the conventional group (22%).
  • Patient Global Impression of Change ratings indicated greater overall improvement in the immersive virtual reality group (76.7%) than in the conventional group (56.5%).
  • Improvements in fatigue severity were sustained at 3 and 12 months post-treatment.
  • Adverse events reported were mild and transient.
