Effects of daytime versus nighttime time-restricted eating on heart and metabolism health and body clock in healthy adults

Updated

Abstract

A systematic review and meta-analysis will evaluate the impacts of diurnal and nocturnal time-restricted eating on cardiometabolic health.

  • Circadian rhythm regulates bodily functions based on a 24-hour light-dark cycle.
  • Disruptions in circadian rhythm, particularly from irregular eating schedules, are linked to higher risks of cardiometabolic diseases.
  • Time-restricted eating (TRE) may support circadian alignment when food intake occurs during daytime hours.
  • Nocturnal TRE patterns, such as those observed during Ramadan, could disrupt circadian rhythms by shifting eating to nighttime.
  • This review aims to synthesize evidence on how different TRE patterns affect cardiometabolic health and circadian rhythm.
