Acting Out Dreams in People with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Updated

Abstract

In a sample of 176 patients, 71% reported (DEB).

  • DEB was significantly associated with poorer treatment response regarding sleep quality, as measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.
  • No significant differences were found in functional impairment or symptom severity between those with and without DEB.
  • Of the 67 patients who completed the Typical Dream Questionnaire, 60% with DEB did not report trauma-related nightmares.
  • The findings suggest that DEB is a notable aspect of sleep disturbances in PTSD that may affect treatment outcomes.
  • The current classification of Trauma-Associated Sleep Disorder may not fully capture all cases of DEB in PTSD.
