New developments in tiny drug carriers for brain and nervous system disorders

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Nanocarrier systems may help deliver drugs across the blood-brain barrier for CNS disorders.

Evidence

This review synthesizes published pharmacology and nanomedicine literature on BBB-crossing delivery systems, including polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, solid-lipid nanoparticles, and quantum dots in preclinical or early clinical studies.

Caveat

Clinical translation remains limited by safety, biocompatibility, scalability, and indication-specific implementation challenges.
