Colchicine's effectiveness for treating long COVID symptoms

Updated

Abstract

In a trial with 346 participants, colchicine did not improve walking distance at 52 weeks compared to placebo.

  • Colchicine was tested for its ability to relieve symptoms of long COVID, which may involve inflammation.
  • No significant difference was found in the distance walked during a 6-minute test between the colchicine and placebo groups.
  • Similar results were observed for other outcomes, including respiratory function and inflammatory markers.
  • A small difference in forced expiratory volume was noted, but it was not clinically meaningful.
  • These results suggest that colchicine may not be an effective treatment for improving functional capacity in long COVID.
