Effectiveness and safety of adding finerenone to treatment with SGLT-2 inhibitors in people with diabetic kidney disease

Updated

Abstract

Addition of finerenone to treatment significantly reduced protein-to-creatinine ratio from 0.52 to 0.41 g/g (p = 0.046).

  • The study included 23 patients with diabetic kidney disease treated with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors.
  • A significant reduction in protein-to-creatinine ratio (UPCR) was observed, with a median decrease of 35%.
  • Urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) showed a decreasing trend, with a median decrease of 36%, though not statistically significant (p = 0.15).
  • Kidney function remained stable, with a small non-significant decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
  • Serum potassium levels increased slightly, with one case of mild hyperkalemia reported and no treatment discontinuations.
