Electroacupuncture’s effects on stress symptoms in medical students compared to placebo

Updated

Abstract

Electroacupuncture (EA) significantly improved sleep quality scores from 36.9 to 25.0 in medical students experiencing stress-related symptoms.

  • EA treatment led to significant improvements in scores for sleep quality, depression, and certain burnout dimensions compared to the control group.
  • Sleep quality, as measured by the Mini-Sleep Questionnaire, showed notable enhancement after EA treatment.
  • The sham TENS group also demonstrated some improvements, indicating a potential placebo effect.
  • EA resulted in a higher number of students reporting better outcomes in sleep quality, sleepiness, anxiety, and depression compared to controls.
  • The findings suggest that EA may be an effective intervention for alleviating stress-related symptoms in medical students.
