  • The nanoplatform targets atherosclerotic plaques and enhances local drug accumulation when combined with low-intensity focused ultrasound.
  • Near-infrared laser irradiation increases cytosolic calcium levels, which activates autophagy in foam cells.
  • This process upregulates cholesterol efflux and reduces oxidized low-density lipoprotein accumulation.
  • The nanoplatform scavenges reactive oxygen species within atherosclerotic plaques and suppresses inflammation associated with atherosclerosis.
  • Continuous elimination of reactive oxygen species in the liver alleviates hepatic steatosis and lowers plasma triglyceride levels.
