Reducing bowel inflammation in mice by activating a receptor that boosts immune-suppressing T cells

Updated

Abstract

T cell-specific deletion of the PGE receptor subtype 2 (EP2) resulted in increased T cell numbers and enhanced granzyme B expression in mice.

  • EP2 is highly expressed in T cells, suggesting its potential role in immune regulation.
  • Loss of EP2 in T cells led to an increased immunosuppressive capacity and enhanced granzyme B expression.
  • Adoptive transfer of EP2-deficient T cells reduced colitis symptoms in recipient mice.
  • Mice lacking EP2 in T cells showed protection from colitis induced by TNBS and DSS.
  • Blocking EP2 pharmacologically alleviated DSS-induced colitis in a manner dependent on T cells.
  • Activation of EP2 may inhibit T cell function by reducing granzyme B expression through specific signaling pathways.
