Mystical Experiences Linked to Esketamine Treatment in Real-World Use

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Mystical-type experiences during esketamine treatment were associated with larger depression score improvements in treatment-resistant depression.

Evidence

This longitudinal real-world observational study measured acute subjective effects across 352 esketamine administrations in 45 patients from two centers during induction treatment.

Caveat

Because the study was observational and treatment was not randomized by mystical experience, the associations with Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale improvement cannot establish therapeutic causality.
