Exercise and liraglutide's effects on blood vessel health and inflammation during weight loss maintenance
Updated
Abstract
In a study involving 130 adults with obesity, exercise alone or combined with liraglutide reduced carotid intima-media thickness and pro-inflammatory cytokine levels.
- Exercise significantly decreased carotid intima-media thickness, indicating improved arterial health.
- Systemic levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 and interferon-γ were reduced with exercise.
- Combination treatment of exercise and liraglutide led to improved endothelial function markers, including sICAM-1, sVCAM-1, and tPA.
- Liraglutide alone did not demonstrate improvements in these vascular health indicators.
- Regular physical activity is associated with enhanced vascular health among adults with obesity.
