Bedroom light pollution and heart and metabolism health risks in young Chinese adults

Updated

Abstract

Exposure to higher bedroom light at night is associated with a 1.47-unit increase in cardiometabolic risk score.

  • Increased bedroom light intensity may lead to a higher cardiometabolic risk score among young adults.
  • Post-bedtime light exposure is linked to elevated fasting insulin levels.
  • Post-bedtime light exposure also correlates with higher insulin resistance, as indicated by HOMA-IR.
  • Pre-awake light exposure is associated with increased levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides.
  • Different periods of bedroom light exposure could have varying effects on cardiometabolic risk.
