Cat Milk Bacteria and Prebiotics Reduce Stress-Related Behaviors and Change Tryptophan Metabolism in Stressed Mice

Updated

Abstract

The social interaction ratio in mice increased significantly from 0.307 ± 0.089 in chronic stress to 1.445 ± 0.114 with the combination of MNN and GOS.

  • Chronic stress is linked to alterations in gut microbiota and tryptophan metabolism.
  • Interventions using MNN, GOS, and their combination reduced behavioral abnormalities associated with chronic social defeat stress.
  • Cecal indoxyl sulfate levels decreased significantly after treatment with MNN, GOS, and the combination.
  • Treatment increased serotonin signals in the intestine and hippocampus and partially restored key neuroplasticity markers.
  • These findings indicate that MNN and GOS may influence the microbiota-tryptophan-serotonin pathway in the context of stress.
