Fetal and Placental Daily Rhythms Develop and Then Align with the Mother’s in the Womb

Updated

Abstract

Essence

Mouse fetoplacental PER2 rhythms appeared during pregnancy and synchronized toward maternal timing before birth.

Evidence

A longitudinal mouse PER2::LUCIFERASE imaging study from embryonic day 8.5 to 17.5 tested in utero rhythms, corticosterone shifting, and in vitro glucocorticoid blockade.

Caveat

The work measured a mouse PER2 reporter and glucocorticoid signaling, so it does not directly establish human fetal circadian development or pregnancy outcomes.
