Fibroid-Like Uterine Growths and Related Tissue Changes in Mice Infected Long-Term with Hepatitis Virus-1

Updated

Abstract

Female A/J mice infected with murine hepatitis virus strain 1 (MHV-1) exhibited chronic uterine inflammation and fibroid-like changes one year post-infection.

  • Long COVID may be associated with increased risks of abnormal uterine bleeding and changes in menstrual patterns.
  • Chronic uterine inflammation and myometrial changes resembling fibroids were observed in MHV-1-infected mice.
  • Pathological findings included hyperplastic foci and mild chronic inflammation in the myometrium and oviduct.
  • Increased expression of uterine fibroid markers was noted in MHV-1-inoculated mice, while serum analysis showed elevated IGF-1 levels.
  • Treatment with the synthetic peptide SPIKENET (SPK) appeared to prevent fibroid-like lesions and associated marker increases.
