Reducing Scars and Tissue Hardening by Partly Resetting Cells Inside the Body

Updated

Abstract

Induction of OSKM transcription factors in excisional wounds resulted in reduced scar tissue formation.

  • Activation of OSKM factors diminished fibroblast transition to myofibroblasts.
  • Wound contraction was reduced following OSKM induction.
  • Gene expression analyses indicated downregulation of profibrotic markers, including transforming growth factor beta 1, Collagen I, and vascular endothelial growth factor.
  • Histological evaluations showed that OSKM induction led to less scar tissue formation in incisional wounds.
  • Partial reprogramming may improve tissue healing without the risk of tumor formation.
