Abstract
A functionalized decalcified bone matrix (FDBM) scaffold has been developed that combines decellularized Wharton's jelly and gelatin with decalcified bone matrix.
- FDBM supports the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into chondrocytes, promoting cartilage regeneration.
- In vivo studies show that cartilage tissue formed from BMSCs on FDBM displays effective endochondral ossification in non-cartilage environments.
- FDBM creates microenvironments conducive to both cartilage and bone formation, resembling natural joint tissue.
- The scaffold has successfully repaired articular osteochondral defects in a rabbit model, indicating potential clinical applications.
