Gallic Acid's Effects on Sleep and Body Clock in a Fruit Fly Model of Fragile X Syndrome

Updated

Abstract

Gallic acid (GA) significantly modulates sleep and circadian rhythm parameters in a fruit fly model of fragile X syndrome (FXS) in a concentration-dependent manner.

  • The most pronounced effects of GA on sleep and circadian rhythm were observed at the lower tested concentration of 100 μM.
  • Behavioral observations were made using high-resolution video monitoring of the fruit fly model, specifically the dFmr1B55 mutants.
  • Bioinformatic analysis indicates potential gene and protein targets, including Rac1, bsk, Jra, Cyfip, and Dscam1, that may mediate the effects of GA.
  • These findings provide preliminary insights into the neurobiological effects of GA in relation to sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances associated with FXS.
