GDF15 expression is downregulated in tubulointerstitial fibrosis (TIF), which is associated with increased severity of the condition.

  • The upregulation of GDF15 may reduce renal TIF and macrophage infiltration.
  • Downregulation of GDF15 could worsen TIF conditions.
  • GDF15 promotes the process of autophagy and the formation of lysosomes.
  • These effects of GDF15 may occur through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway.
  • A negative correlation exists between GDF15 expression levels and the severity of renal TIF.
