Shared genetic regions in endometriosis and asthma linked to sex hormones and thyroid signals

Updated

Abstract

A positive genetic correlation (rG = 0.16, P = 2.01 × 10-6) exists between endometriosis and asthma.

  • Significant genetic overlap was identified, with shared risk effects across endometriosis and asthma.
  • Fourteen independent genetic loci were found to be significantly associated with both conditions, including five potentially novel loci.
  • Seventeen shared genes were identified that may contribute to the relationship between endometriosis and asthma.
  • Biological pathways associated with the two disorders include immune system physiology and thyroid hormone signaling.
  • No significant causal association was established between endometriosis and asthma despite the observed correlations.
