Link between nutrition risk and muscle loss in American adults aged 45 and older

Updated

Abstract

The incidence of sarcopenia was 17.7% in the Low-GNRI group compared to 13.2% in the High-GNRI group (p = 0.013).

  • Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) is associated with the prevalence of sarcopenia in adults aged 45 and older.
  • Higher GNRI scores correlate with a reduced occurrence of sarcopenia, with an odds ratio of 0.57 (95% CI: 0.41-0.79; p = 0.001).
  • Subgroup analysis indicates that certain populations, such as high school graduates, non-Hispanic whites, and non-diabetic individuals, may be more susceptible to the effects of GNRI on sarcopenia.
  • A non-linear inverse relationship between GNRI and sarcopenia was observed, with a threshold effect at a GNRI value of 91.935.
