Selective Overlap and Interaction of Ghrelin and GLP-1 Receptors in Certain Hypothalamus Neurons

Updated

Abstract

In the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus, 15% to 20% of GHSR+ cells also express GLP-1R.

  • GHSR+ and GLP-1R+ cells are largely separated in the mouse brain.
  • Double-positive Ghsr+/Glp1r+ cells comprise less than 10% of all Ghsr+ or Glp1r+ cells, primarily found in the hypothalamus.
  • Functional studies indicate that GLP-1R activity can inhibit presynaptic calcium channels.
  • The presence of one receptor may reduce the inhibitory effects of the other on presynaptic calcium channels.
