Updated

Abstract

A total of 9832 publications on nondrug and nonsedative treatments for insomnia were analyzed from 2000 to 2021.

  • The United States contributed the highest number of publications (40.33%), followed by Stanford University and the United States Department of Health and Human Services as leading institutions and funding agencies.
  • 'Cognitive-behavioural therapy' emerged as the most prominent research topic, while keywords like sleep disorder, quality of life, and acupuncture were frequently associated with Chinese literature.
  • Circadian rhythm was identified as the strongest research frontier across the 21-year span, with traditional Chinese medicine gaining prominence from 2019 to 2021.
  • Research trends are shifting from studies on the efficacy of nondrug treatments to investigations of comorbidities related to insomnia.
  • Clinical practice guidelines are anticipated to become a significant focus in future research after 2021.
