Changes in Blood Sugar-Regulating Hormones During Endurance Training in Competitive Triathletes

Updated

Abstract

GLP-1 concentration increased from 44.73 pmol/L during the preparatory period to 45.92 pmol/L in the competitive period among elite male triathletes.

  • GIP serum concentration was higher in the training groups compared to the control group, with values of 33.21 ng/mL versus 38.83 ng/mL.
  • No statistically significant differences were found between the groups for testosterone and NF-κB concentrations.
  • A strong positive correlation was observed between NF-κB and both GLP-1 and GIP during each training period.
  • There was a minor increase in the median testosterone value during the competitive period, with a significantly lower median in the control group.
  • These findings may indicate that incretins and NF-κB could be potential biomarkers for metabolic adaptation to exercise.
