Outcomes of Semaglutide and SGLT2 Inhibitors in Diabetic Patients After a Heart Attack

Updated

Abstract

During a median follow-up of 37 months, all-cause mortality was 2.7% for patients receiving combined therapy of GLP-1RA and SGLT2i.

  • Among 870 patients, those receiving no GLP-1RA/SGLT2i had the highest all-cause mortality at 30.2%.
  • Patients treated with combined GLP-1RA and SGLT2i experienced no cardiovascular deaths.
  • Adherence to GLP-1RA and/or SGLT2i was associated with a lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (HR 0.55).
  • SGLT2i use alone was associated with a reduced risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (HR 0.66).
  • GLP-1RA treatment showed a trend towards reduced risk but did not reach statistical significance (HR 0.60).
