GLP-1 receptor agonists and fracture risk in older adults with type 2 diabetes

Updated

Abstract

Essence

GLP-1 receptor agonist initiation was linked to a modestly higher fragility fracture risk in older adults with type 2 diabetes.

Evidence

Population-based retrospective new-user cohort evidence from 46,177 Clalit Health Services patients aged 65 years or older compared GLP-1RAs with SGLT2 or DPP-4 inhibitors and found HR 1.11 for first fragility fracture.

Caveat

Propensity-weighted observational data can leave residual confounding and do not prove that GLP-1RAs caused the fractures.
